Fiorella has been our Director since September 2006. Along with her administrative duties Fiorella teaches our Biology, Family Studies, Geography and Psychology courses.
Fiorella obtained her high school diploma as an adult at a centre very much like our own centre. She then went on to complete her Bachelor of Education at the University of Winnipeg. She majored in Biology and Geography. She started out substitute teaching and then eventually was hired to teach a biology course to adults several years ago. She has since never looked back, finding her niche in life was working with and teaching adults. The last several years she was teaching and directing at another ALC in Winnipeg and came to join our team here in September. She is currently working on her Post Baccalaureate in Education at the University of Manitoba. She is really glad to be here and is really enjoying the new challenges of directing an adult learning centre in a rural setting.
Dan Lagacé has been working at the Ste. Anne Adult Learning Centre since it opened its doors in September 1999. He is the Science, Math, Accounting and Computer Technology teacher. Dan holds a Bachelor of Sciences and Education degrees from the College Universitaire de St.Boniface. Aside from teaching at the Centre, Dan is always active in many different sports. During the summer months, you may find him playing slo-pitch, golf or rollerblading. In the winter, you’ll find him curling, playing spongee or at a hockey rink.
Teaching has always been at the centre of Steve’s professional pursuits. A journalist, writer and performer his background in theatre and film enables him to bring a multi-dimensional approach to the classroom. Steve is an adult learner who graduated from the Red River/University of Manitoba Teacher Education Program in 1997. He also teaches Home Economics at Lorette Collegiate and Screenwriting at Red River College. Steve has a dark sense of humour which he uses to enhance the classes he teaches. We welcome back Steve and his sense of humour to our Centre this 2008 - 2009 school year.
Leslee has worked at the Ste. Anne Adult Learning Centre since February 2001 as an Educational Assistant, primarily providing support to students gaining computer and accounting credits towards their high school diploma. Leslee began her career educating adults fifteen years ago where she describes her first experience as being “inadvertently thrown to the wolves”. She soon realized that her personality and knowledge of computers/software was best put to use helping adults young and old. On a personal note, Leslee is married with two young girls and enjoys spending time with them at home, gardening, going for walks and bike riding. In the winter months she enjoys tackling the sport of curling.
Gaby began her journey at the Centre in 1999 when she took the courageous step to walk in the door and register for an English course. In June 2003 Gaby graduated with a Mature Student Diploma and has since never looked back. Gaby was hired in September 2005 and from the beginning was a tremendous asset. Her experience as a student here proved to be beneficial as she undoubtedly can identify the most with our students. She understands full well the obstacles our students sometimes face and the hard work and commitment that is required to be successful. Gaby enjoys knitting, doing crafts and has recently taken up curling.
